Microsoft profit rises 30%

Microsoft Corp. MSFT +0.65% said Thursday its fiscal net income rose to $5.87 billion, or 69 cents a share, from $4.52 billion, or 51 cents a share in the same period last year. The Redmond, Wash.-based software firm said revenue for the period ended June 30 rose 8% to $17.4 billion. Analysts polled by FactSet Research had expected Microsoft to report earnings of 59 cents a share, and $17.2 billion in revenue for the quarter.
